The History of Jan Black Photography
Jan Black used to tag along when her Dad would go out and shoot his pictures. When she was
just 3 years old, she would watch the sunset on the beach in CA. He told her – when the sun
is going down and just about gone, keep watching as you will "see the rays" – that’s me
(His name was Ray). She learned at a young age– it was not about getting that "special shot",
it was about sharing the experience. She enjoyed spending time with her Dad in a beautiful setting.
Photography is a special memory that is meant to be shared. It takes time and patience to travel somewhere, pause and look around for something that moves you and then capture it. Jan
says."when I see something and say "WOW look at that", I take the shot. I want to take the best photo
I can as since I don’t photoshop my images,, just crop them.
In this day and age where people can create a picture without ever being there, I find it even more special to use a really great camera,
in this case a Canon 7D. The camera is so fast and performs well, it allows me the freedom to shoot spontaneously, to take the best shot
possible to begin with. Some call that special viewpoint "having the eye" – which can be the difference between a snapshot and a piece
of art. - to be able to take the viewer into the setting, to experience the feeling when the photo was taken – it captures you, speaks to you
and evokes emotion.
Jan Black Photography Signature Collections includes local Lake Norman Sunsets, Lake Norman Sailboats and Scenery as well as
from gardens, several NC, SC and CA beaches and NC and VA mountains. Photos are available to purchase. All original photos are
copyright protected.
Also included is an Historic Davidson Collection of framed prints and notecards with a portion of the proceeds benefitting
the Davidson Historic Society.
